    FAQs

Grown-Up Swimming? What the heck is that? A goofy league for folks 18 and over who want to have a laid-back atmosphere to race and be social.

Kinda like slow pitch softball? Exactly, or summer league swimming for grownups.

Cookouts? Are there really cookouts? Yep, most of the host pools will run a grill and concession stand for all of your caloric needs!

Do I have to be a member of the JCC or Cornerstone to join? No! Anyone can join.

Do I need to practice to compete? No! But you might have more fun if you do...

Do I need to compete to practice? Same answer.

What does it cost? Registration with Grown-up Swimming is approximately $65. Practice fees are set session-by-session (around $200) and are paid directly to the host facility. The team itself doesn't collect any revenue and is organized entirely by volunteers.

Who is behind all this? It started with the parents' committee of the Mandell JCC Sharks age group swim team. The JCC used to have a Masters swim team, but that ended with COVID-19 and always seemed too serious anyway. When we heard about Grown-up Swimming, we got together with swimmer friends at Cornerstone to start the West Hartford Sharks.
